This is Steve Taylor.

He was killed in broad daylight by two San Leandro police officers, and he deserves justice.

Steve Taylor was only 33.

On Saturday, April 18, officers working for the San Leandro Police department opened fire on Steve Taylor inside of a Wal-Mart store. The officers applied unnecessary deadly force even after he was disarmed, breaking the law. Steve was tasered, and handcuffed even as he lay dying on the floor.

Video footage of the incident supplies more than enough evidence to justify bringing charges against the San Leandro Police officers involved in the death of Steve Taylor. In order for justice to be served impartially, it’s critical that a special prosecutor should immediately be brought on to handle the case.

Steve Taylor needed help, not violence. Steve was a father of three. His family has suffered an immense loss. We must help them get justice.

He deserves justice.

Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley has a history of avoiding and dismissing police accountability.

After Fremont police officers shot and killed a pregnant teenager in 2017, D.A. O’Malley was tasked with investigating the officers and bringing criminal charges against them. She did not. In fact, just months before clearing the officers, O’Malley accepted a $10,000 political contribution from the Fremont police union. District Attorney O'Malley has repeatedly shown herself unwilling to investigate or otherwise hold accountable law enforcement officials who use excessive lethal force.

It’s up to us to put pressure on Alameda County to appoint an independent special prosecutor to secure justice for Steve.

Help get justice for Steve Taylor!

There is more than enough evidence here to justify bringing charges against the San Leandro Police officers involved in the death of Steve Taylor.

Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley has a history of avoiding and dismissing police accountability—in order for justice to be served impartially, it’s critical that an independent special prosecutor should immediately be brought on to handle the case.

We need a special prosecutor on Steve's case who will NOT bend to the will of police.

UPDATE: Now the Alameda County DA's office has appointed ADA John Brouhard—deputy to Nancy O'Malley who has a history of ignoring police violence. We must demand a truly impartial prosecutor for Steve.
